(SPOILER WARNING FOR STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS)
“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?” Abrams reveals. “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”
Here is their symbol:
What does this symbol of The First Order mean? At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a two-dimensional representation of the weapon from Starkiller Base, The First Order’s answer to the Empire’s Death Star from the original trilogy.
But things are not always what they seem. Remember what J.J. Abrams said about modeling The First Order after the remaining Nazis who regrouped in Argentina after World War II? Well, that’s pretty obvious when you look at General Hux’s speech to his stormtroopers, just before they fire the weapon that harnesses the power of a sun.
And, in actually, The First Order’s symbol is a disguised Signet of the Black Sun, which is something the Neo-Nazis are into.
Don’t see how it fits? Check out the two symbols side by side:
Still don’t see it? Look, here they are overlaid:
There are a couple of different Black Sun symbols, but the one J.J. Abrams (or somebody working on “The Force Awakens”) chose to use for The First Order is associated with a group called Tempelhofgesellschaft.
The older Tempelhofgesellschaft (THG) was built in the 1980s by a few members of the nazi “Erbengemeinschaft der Tempelritter”. The leader of this group was the former police man Hans-Günter Fröhlich who resided in Germany/Homburg.
The younger Tempelhofgesellschaft was founded in Vienna in the early 1990s by Norbert Jurgen-Ratthofer and Ralft Ettl to teach a dualist form of Christian religion called Marcionism. This one was a part of the main THG/Homburg. The group identifies an “evil creator of this world,” the Demiurge with Jehovah, the God of Judaism. Jesus Christ was an Aryan, not Jewish. They distribute pamphlets claiming that the Aryan race originally came to Atlantis from the star Aldebaran (this information is supposedly based on “ancient Sumerian manuscripts”). They maintain that the Aryans from Aldebaran derive their power from the vril energy of the Black Sun. They teach that since the Aryan race is of extraterrestrial origin it has a divine mission to dominate all the other races. It is believed by adherents of this religion that an enormous space fleet is on its way to Earth from Aldebaran which, when it arrives, will join forces with the Nazi Flying Saucers from Antarctica to establish the Western Imperium.
I wonder if Aldebaran is where George Lucas got the name for Alderaan from?
But this symbolism of The First Order being a Neo-Nazi, Black Sun worshiping death cult has a positive outcome in “The Force Awakens”. Borrowing the plot from “A New Hope”, in “The Force Awakens”, the Resistance is able to blow up the Starkiller Base, and it is then reborn as a new sun.
As I wrote last time, the newest Star Wars movie does have a positive message for today’s reality. We must resist these fascists who want to control every aspect of our lives. After enough of us Awaken, we can destroy their Black Sun and allow a new light to shine through in its place.
